Home Depot mows over their Warranty
2007-05-29 00:21:02
"So I bring it in, it has a 1 year warranty ... He said they could send it out for repair, I agreed to it, until he said it would cost over $100.00"
I am far from a problem customer or someone who tries to get freebees. I rarely even send food back if it sucks, at a restaurant. I bought a new lawnmower at Home Depot last Fall, Labor Day, an MTD with self propel. I used it 3 times last year, and like 8 or 9 this year, I have a flat yard, never hit anything with it. The belt for the self propel fell off, and the pulley moved, so the belt was thrown off........I would guess the grass lodged up in there did that, it [is] front drive and all the [stuff] gets caught up under that cover. Plus the handle is too low and makes it uncomfortable to use, would work for someone 5ft6 LOL...

So I bring it in, it has a 1 year warranty. I saw the manager and I was cordial and explained and showed him the problem. He said they could send it out for repair, I agreed to it, until he said it would cost over $100.00. I then was getting pissed... I told him I hate this mower as it is, and a Honda or a different brand would have never had this happen this fast, and its a mechanical failure. Fix the thing and honor the warranty. Still the guy was condescending and was a smart a** in his manner. I told him, take this piece of s**t back, and Ill pay the difference for a Honda, I will not have a mower that breaks after a few uses... he would do NOTHING for me. After 14 years of doing business there, buying paint, lumber, tools, etc.

Still [he] refuses to help and starts to ignore me. I swear if it were 10 years ago Id have gotten him in a quiet aisle and boxed his ears inside his head. It takes a lot for me to get that way. I told him to go f*** himself and I took my mower, and went to Lowes and got a Troy Bilt with a Honda motor, 90 days same as cash. Is it me or is that f***ed up customer service?
