United Furniture Warehouse: Get less than what you paid for
2007-02-21 15:28:25
| "Their products are low quality (most of my furniture came from Malaysia), their customer service is terrible, their extended warranties are worthless. They would rather keep my money than make me happy." |
I had just bought a new house and it was time to furnish it. We didn't really know where to go so we decided to try United Furniture Warehouse. We had never been there before. Money wasn't really an issue but I appreciate a good deal so their prices looked really good to me. We bought a bedroom set, a dining room table with chairs, a bar-style table with chairs, a couch, and recliner. I bought the extended furniture protection plan to go with it.
The problems started with the bar-style table and chairs. I really wasn't aware that EVERYTHING from UFW required assembly. That wasn't the hard part, putting together furniture isn't exactly hard with instructions and the proper tools. What did make it difficult however was not having holes screwed in the chairs for the screws. We ended up having to buy a long drill bit and drilling holes by hand. That was only the beginning.
The problems with the dining room table started with a badly damaged leg from delivery. UFW replaced it quickly with the demo on the floor so I was happy, but that wasn't the end. We bought an infused scented candle and put it on the table. A few days later, the table was dusted and there was a ring on the table where the candle had been. The candle had been wrapped yet somehow oil must have leaked onto the table. The ring was permanent and when the spot was initially rubbed, the finish came off completely. Immediately we contacted UFW who referred us to the provider of the extended warranty to have it fixed. Well, after sending in an application to have the ring fixed, it was quickly denied, citing that it was not covered by the extended warranty, even though it specifically said "liquid rings" were covered. They offered to fix a few chips that were in the table, but instead I told them not to bother and hung up on them. I went back to United to try and get my money back for the table, and of course they refused. They also refused to refund the money for the extended warranty. No doubt because I was young they didn't take me seriously even though I was very animate demanding compensation.
Since all the problems with United I have told everyone I know (and everyone I meet in the future) not to shop United Furniture Warehouse. Their products are low quality (most of my furniture came from Malaysia), their customer service is terrible, their extended warranties are worthless. They would rather keep my money than make me happy. No amount of saturation "Boom Boom" marketing will ever make up for all the people that will hear about my bad experience with them. In fact, word of my incident eventually reached another United Furniture Warehouse hundreds of miles away. The manager called me and said that he would have had someone out there to fix it immediately and that the situation made all United Furniture Warehouses look bad. I never heard back from him after sending pictures of the damage.
