Coldwater Creek, a clothing store for women, is known for exceptional customer service. Too bad they dont treat their employees the same way. I worked at a CWC store for a long time and it was very poorly managed. There was a change of managers when I was there which resulted in the assistant being made the manager. She was rude and abusive to customers and employees alike! The first thing she did as a manager was hire her best friends to be her assistants. That was as good an idea as it sounds! They were not qualified for management positions and it showed! After that there was a lot of gossiping and cliqueishness (at the exclusion of the staff) and favoritism was rampant. Her friends were told (in front of others) that they are above the others and the staff has to do what they say. They were constantly telling us to do things wrong and I usually got blamed. There was also a lot of sitting around and talking and general laziness among our new managers, and the staff got blamed for not getting enough work done. And when I say blamed I mean yelled at! The manager had such a bad temper there were several of us that were afraid to go to work every day. I tried talking with the district manager and corporate, though my complaints always fell on deaf ears. Nothing was ever done to solve this problem and eventually a number of good employees left because of this poor working environment. I worked hard there for a long time and cannot even begin to tell you how undervauled I felt as an employee. I realize this was probably just in my store, but to me this is a reflection on the company as a whole. My district manager always stressed good customer service, though never bothered to care about employees. I, for one, will never be shopping at a CWC again!
